Oral Assessments

The oral assessment is a proof of verbal language proficiency for English, French, Italian or Spanish, offered by treffpunkt sprachen. The certificate serves as a proof of language skills for outgoing students as well as employees to show at their host university. The language level is assessed according to the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Target group: Outgoing students of the University of Graz and other universities, as well as employees at the University of Graz
Registration and course fees: Registration is possible online up to one week before each appointment. For every oral assessment, the fee is € 40,-. The payment is processed through the online registration, either via instant bank transfer or credit card.
Preparation and procedure: To prepare for the assessment, we recommend that you review our course description(s) for the CEFR level you are pursuing. Based on this description, you can determine which competences you will be asked to demonstrate with regard to communication, vocabulary and grammar. Please consider that our course descriptions are divided into a first and second phase for each level. For example, if you pursue a proof for level B1, you will need to demonstrate skills for both phases (level B1/1st phase and level B1/2nd phase).
After the registration, you will be informed about the exact time of the assessment. One oral assessment lasts for 15 minutes. During this time, you will be involved in a conversation with a teacher at treffpunkt sprachen, who is a native speaker of the respective language. During the interview, the teacher pays particular attention to your use of topic-related vocabulary, grammar and tenses. Furthermore, they assess your listening comprehension. You will be given the result of the oral assessment immediately after the conversation and receive the confirmation (certificate) via email.
Important: Since the oral assessment only serves as a proof of your verbal language proficiency, it cannot be compared to language certificates such as IELTS or TOEFL. You have to discuss whether the oral assessment is sufficient for an application at your desired host university yourself with the respective facility.
